How I gather my thoughts before writing.

One of my readers asked me about my writing.  Specifically How I gather my thoughts and center myself.

“First of all I would like to say great blog!
I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear
your thoughts prior to writing. I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas
out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are
usually lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!”

So here’s my process to create a post on my blog.

Throughout the day, when I’m reading or writing or something happens in my life.
I find inspiration for titles of topics to write on. Whatever it is I take note of it.
I add titles for topics to my list of topics as often as I can.

When I go to write something I have a list of exciting topics prepared ahead of time.
That way I can pick something I’m in the mood to write that day.

As far as clearing my mind goes I generally don’t. I have seven years of creative writing experience and like the rest of my life I practiced specifically so that I got good enough to be able to do things really well the first time.

For centering practice I recommend the psychic training technique conveniently called centering. Basically you close your eyes and imagine pushing everything out of you that is not you, then you imagine reaching out and pulling everything in that is you. After a few minutes of this, you’ll be very well focused and centered. Being highly skilled myself I’ve learned how to do this for others as well.

In your case specifically I do one of several things. I usually rewrite the topic line and then change it a bit. Or put an introductory sentence before the topic line. My writing teacher told me to take the topic and write 3 to 5 things on that subject and then to make a paragraph on each one of them. This is an excellent way to practice your writing.

If I get writer’s block and can’t move forward on one topic I just save where I’m at and pick a different one in my list, and go from there.

Just like everything else in life, just like dating, just like business, just like sex, just like lifting weights. The more you practice and DO something the easier it becomes, and the better you are at it. To a point the more you study on the topic the easier it becomes and the better you are at it.

To get really good you have to do both study and practice. If you can’t think of anything to write on your chosen topic, then study your topic in depth. Then the writing will come easily and quickly.

Try to always add pictures to your blog posts, the pictures make a BIG difference!

I have my exact thought process and business strategy in my book >>>>> http://payhip.com/b/lvY3
It details exactly how I think and stay motivated. It’s not for everyone though, it’s very direct and intense.
I find most people can’t handle living with the kind of drive and passion that I do.
It teaches you how to get the kind of drive I have, and how to keep it.
